5 Stretches To Test Flexibility

Imagine if simply stretching could help you live a longer, healthier life. Recent research suggests that’s exactly the case. A new study published in the Washington Post reveals that the more flexible you are, the lower your risk of serious health conditions and premature death.

The article notes that if you’re not flexible, it could signal a red flag for more serious conditions such as stiffer arteries. Stiff arteries are a condition where the walls of the arteries become less elastic and more rigid. This can happen due to a buildup of plaque (atherosclerosis), which is a major risk factor for peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Lifestyle modifications, certain medications, and medical procedures such as angioplasty can help manage symptoms of PAD. However, working to improve flexibility could also reduce symptoms by boosting circulation.

The article mentions five ways to test your flexibility and offers easy stretches to do to improve your flexibility.

The study states that by doing these exercises a few times a day, you’ll reduce stiffness. That means it can also reduce your risk of developing stiffer arteries. Other ways to help improve flexibility include exercises for PAD, such as yoga, tai chi, swimming, and walking.
