A recent article from SciTechDaily highlighted a study that found a link between restricted blood flow and cancer growth. The authors of the study explained that conditions like atherosclerosis, in which plaque builds up in the arteries and impedes blood flow, age bone marrow at a faster rate. This can impact the body’s immune system, making it harder to fight cancer cells.
Atherosclerosis is a known risk factor for peripheral artery disease (PAD). Reduced blood flow from atherosclerosis can lead to leg pain, skin discoloration, numbness, tingling, or hair loss.
Physicians at USA Vascular Centers stress that addressing symptoms early through minimally invasive treatments can slow the progression of the disease. This can reduce the risk of serious complications, such as heart attack, stroke, limb loss, and accelerated cancer growth.
